Proto-Freelanced model railroading refers to the creation of model trains that are not always based on specific real-world railroad or locations. In this hobby, enthusiasts design and build their own fictional or freelanced railroad systems, incorporating unique elements, themes, designs, and history. It allows for creativity and personalization in crafting model railroads without adhering to the specifics of existing prototypes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sur Rail began in 2020, during the challenging period of the lockdowns. I began by taking an Athearn Helm Leasing GP38-2 and re-decaling it entirely for Sur Rail. The original concept was to design a proto-freelanced leasing unit under the Sur Rail name, similar to that of Citi Rail or Helm. Over time, this re-decaling process expanded to include rail cars and eventually two SD60 locomotives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Later in 2022, the idea for an proto-freelanced short line model railroad began. The Arvada Western Railroad<\/a> was created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
